Chapter Philanthropy & Service
In addition to national partners, collegiate chapters also support local causes through philanthropic fundraising and hands-on service on their campuses and in their local communities.
The members of the Delta Nu Chapter are involved in a wide variety of community service and philanthropy. From volunteering at animal shelters, to working in community gardens, to mentoring elementary school students, siblings channel their passion for helping others in so many ways. In the spring 2017 semester, siblings completed a combined total of over 438 hours of community service!
In addition to volunteering individually, the Delta Nu Chapter works together to parter with several invaluable organizations:
Beloit Domestic Violence Survivor Center
The Delta Nu Chapter has begun an exciting new partnership with the Beloit Domestic Violence Survivor Center (BDVSC)! BDVSC offers a variety of services to victims of domestic violence, including a 24-hour Crisis Line, legal advocacy, information and education, programs specific to child victims, weekly support groups, and safe housing in their emergency shelter. Maren Hawkins, a Delta Nu alumna, is a staff member at the survivor center, and has provided domestic violence advocacy training for the entirety of the Chapter. As regular volunteers, sisters are eager to meet the many needs of the emergency shelter, whether that be answering crisis calls, updating information packets, or preparing the center for the upcoming remodel. If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile organization or are looking for more information on the nature of domestic violence, you can visit the Beloit Domestic Violence Survivor Center's website at http://www.statelinefamilyservices.org/1.html.
Be the Match Marrow Donor Registry
The sblings have Delta Nu are so excited to be working with Be The Match, the national marrow donor registry. Be the Match works to find marrow donors for patients with blood cancers, like leukemia and lymphoma, and blood diseases, including sickle cell anemia. A marrow transplant is the last hope for these patients, and 70% of patients rely on the Be the Match registry to find their match. In addition to becoming registered bone marrow donors, members of Delta Nu have been working to register more marrow donors and spreading the word about this amazing cause. To learn more about Be the Match and bone marrow donation, please visit https://bethematch.org/.
In the spring of 2016 and 2017, Delta Nu has fundraised for St. Baldricks, which is a childhood cancer research organization. We have so far been able to raise money before our big event in the spring through siblings starting their own fundraising page. At our big event this past spring we had several people, including fellow siblings, shave their heads to show solidarity with those battling cancer and to bring awareness to a great cause. Along with the shaving, our there was also a bake sale, cereal eating contest, bracelet making and live music performed by fellow Beloit students. This past spring we were able to fundraise $2,725.00!
